NEW SECRETARY GENERAL OF THE
SALESIANS
(ANS – Rome, 15 June 2002) –
The Rector Major has appointed Fr Marian Stempel as the new Secretary
General of the Salesian Congregation.
Fr Marian Stempel was born in Morag,
Poland, in 1961; he did his novitiate and made his first religious profession in
Czerwinsk in 1982, and his perpetual profession in Turin, in 1988. He did his
studies of Theology in Rome. Ordained priest in Plock in 1989, he was Provincial
Secretary in Warsaw from 1991 to 1996.
He was called to work at the
Generalate in Rome and was secretary to the Regional Councillor for North Europe
and Vice Rector of the community. He has a licentiate in Theology and speaks
Italian, English and Russian in addition to Polish his mother tongue.
The new
Secretary General succeeds Fr Francesco Maraccani who has been appointed
Procurator General and Official Spokesman of the Salesians of Don
Bosco
