“Do you remember me when you
choose?”
Hong Kong - 4 May 2013
-- The Lord said: “Do you remember me when you choose?”
That is not a verse from the Holy Scripture, but the theme of
Vocation Day 2013 in the China Province. The annual event was
successfully held on 4th May, 2013 in the Salesian House of
Studies, Hong Kong. It is already a tradition in the China
Province that the Vocation Day is to be held on the Saturday
before the Feast of St. Dominic Savio. This year, there were
altogether 70 young people who participated in the event.
Following the theme of the Vocation Day, participants were
guided to reflect if they seek for God’s guidance when they
make decisions. Life decisions cannot be made lightly,
otherwise we may walk astray. Participants were asked to
imagine themselves as the spiritual guide for a typical young
person, advising that youth about making important life
decisions. This simulation session made the participants pause
and think wisely for themselves.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by Fr. Fedrigotti, the
Provincial, together with 9 other Salesians. During the
homily, Fr. Andrew Fung, the Vice Provincial, shared three
tips of listening to God’s will in the search of vocation:
(1) Be nearer to Jesus in His Word and the Eucharist;
(2) Be a volunteer; for we hear God’s voice in the service of
others;
(3) Have a spiritual guide.
Another significant part of that day’s activity was the
football league. The Savio Cup was won by the Aberdeen
Technical School.
The Vocation Day held in the Salesian House of Studies was an
event that started off the province’s work of vocation
promotion. In the days to come, the other local communities
will celebrate their own vocation week, where various
activities will be organized to foster a vocation culture in
the communities.
