October 9, 2015By Ms. Arlene Abital and Sr. Pam Vecina, FMA
Port Moresby, PNG, October 7, 2015 - Sacramental Life has been a priority at Don Bosco Technological Institute, East Boroko. In its years of apostolate with the young in Papua New Guinea, the institute has always welcomed students from other denominations who wish to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Communion. This year, the Sacrament of Confirmation was celebrated by His Excellency Archbishop John Ribat, Archbishop of Port Moresby on the 7th of October, 2015 at the Mary Help of Christians Shrine, Boroko. Fr. Eduardo Revilla, SDB concelebrated at the Eucharistic celebration.
Eldred SAPORO (1 Electrical A), Theodore TAINI (1 MFM) and Mathew PAOFA (2 Electronics B) were confirmed by Archbishop Ribat at a well-prepared celebration. Spiritual Moderator, Sr. Pam Vecina, FMA ably assisted by Mr. Brendon Kaita prepared the three young Bosconians to receive the Sacrament.
The Archbishop in his homily emphasized on the essence of the Sacrament of Confirmation for us as Catholics. He reminded us that our baptismal promises made by our parents and godparents to renounce Satan and believe in God are now renewed. He said, “This sacrament is very important for our development as Catholics. We have to be strong so as to brace ourselves from the many trials in our spiritual and Christian life.” He encouraged the newly-confirmed Catholics to treasure the Sacrament, and pray that the Holy Spirit remains with them along the journey of life.
The young men were consecrated oil while the Archbishop pronouncing their names said, “Be sealed with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.” Later their certificates were blessed and presented to them.
The Eucharistic celebration ended with a group photo with the Archbishop, Fr. Eduardo, their Sponsors and Family members.
