New parish in Fiji offers outreach to young Salesian in formation
March 21, 2019
Suva, Fiji Islands -- On 16 March 2019, the Salesian Community in Suva Fiji visited a family in the newly founded Parish of Saint John Bosco. A 76 year old man named Ben lives there by himself in his humble home, and providing care for his three grandchildren. The purpose of the visitation was to make Ben’s place a safe environment for him and his grandchildren to live in. The work involved moving the lawn, clearing the walkway from the main road to the house, weeding the plantation and collecting the rubbish. Ben was very emotional when he expressed his gratitude for the work the young Salesians did.
DFor our formation community, it was a small way of reaching out to the neediest people in our new parish area in Suva. At present there are 10 Salesians in initial formation accompanied by four formators (Rector Fr Paselio Tevaga). The community is also entrusted with the Parish of St John Bosco (2017) under the leadership of the Parish priest Fr Mika Leilua.
DThe community of Suva, Fiji islands, together with Auckland, New Zealand and two communities in Samoa form the Pacific Delegation of AUL (Australia-Pacific) province with a total of 30 Salesians.
