4237(II)_Don Bosco Phnom Penh shares the Gifts of Christmas
December 28, 2016
Phnom Penh, Cambodia, 25 December 2016 -- The Christmas Gifts of love, joy and peace resounds all through Cambodia during this Christmas season. That is the message Don Bosco echoes to all. On 25th December 2016 the boarders celebrated Christmas and the birthday of 12 student boarders for the month of December with a beautiful party. This time the students did not cut a cake, but they cut fruit according to their Khmer tradition. Fr. Rector prayed for them and their good health. Later the birthday celebrants also prayed to God before they cut the fruit and distribute them during the party Khmer-dancing. The event was graced by the family visitors of Fr. Roel, Mrs. Anunciacion Soto, his mother, and Amiel Christopher Francis Amarasekera, his nephew. The students later exchanged gifts among themselves for Christmas.
The next day 26th December 2016 Don Bosco Technical School, Phnom Penh began its Christmas day festivities. The day began with the celebration of the Holy Eucharist celebrated by Fr. Roel Soto, rector, with Frs. Gerard Ravasco and Arun Michael Charles as concelebrants. It was a beautiful and solemn Eucharistic celebration. Then, there came the cultural events kicking off with the Christmas Puppet show in Khmer directed by Bro. Joshua Pilaku. The cultural programme went on for about two hours which ended with the distribution of gifts to the various departments by Fr. Rector as a symbolic representative of Jesus Christ in our community. Following the cultural event the students and staff had a very special lunch - Khmer Beef curry.
The festivities are not yet over at Don Bosco Phnom Penh. The more interesting ones are yet to come. The two-day Christmas Football League of partner companies and institutions on 28th and 29th followed by the Christmas Fair on 29th December 2016 evening with cultural shows, puppet show, magic show, game and food booths, and the yearly awaited Christmas lottery – a fund raising for the school. The expected guests and participants including our past pupils for this night event would be more than 2,000 persons.
