5512(IV)_A New Oratory in the Fiji Islands
November 18, 2020
Suva, Fiji Islands 18 November 2020 -- The Oratory has started again after a temporary shut down during the pandemic lockdown and restrictions. About 100 people are joining the oratory every Saturday afternoon. This number is very encouraging for the Oratory which officially re-opened in September 2020.
Starting the Oratory was one of the aims of our community’s pastoral activities for 2020. It was suspended during the COVID lockdown and weeks of restrictions on gatherings and sporting activities. At first there were not many young people coming to the Oratory. Then some restrictions were lifted and the Brothers were able to visit the young people and their families in the villages, it not only attracted many people and their parents to participate, it also created a trust and connection with the families that enabled the Oratory to grow.
As Salesians, we always feel happy to accompany young people, to play with them, to guide them and it is wonderful when we see them play full of energy and joy on the playground.
Please pray for us here in the Fiji Islands.
