ITM: Fifty two years of Priesthood

JAKARTA:  July 8, 2008 --  On Sunday 6th July, after the confrères' annual retreat in the cool mountains near Jakarta City, the Salesian Family gathered at the St John Bosco Parish to thank God for the presence and fidelity of Fr. Jose Carbonell sdb. He celebrates his 52nd year of priesthood and 23th year of residence in Indonesia.
    Local benefactors, friends and collaborators attended the evening youth Mass and recalled his numerous initiatives and projects starting in Spain, Philippines, Papua New Guinea and Indonesia-Timor. As provincial superior, he had a hand in the construction of schools, churches, orphanages, formation houses in those different countries. But also, he is remembered for the building up of confrères as novice master and vocation promoter in those same places. Even now, he is assigned in the novitiate community in Sumba, guiding the young ones with his spiritual counsels as confessor.
    After the Mass, dinner was served for everyone. It was followed by a short slideshow animated by Fr. Andres Calleja, Provincial. The theme was about Fr. Carbonell and the Salesians' almost 25 years  presence in Indonesia. After watching it,  the young and old believed that Fr. Carbonell's favorite song, "Impossible Dream" may indeed become a reality, if we work hard and be faithful to Don Bosco.
