HONG KONG: 19 May 2012-- The
Salesian Youth Ministry
Office organized its 3rd meeting on 12 May 2012 at Tang King
Po School.
More than 80 participants including Salesians, principals,
teachers and
pastoral workers of the Salesian Family from Hong Kong and
Macau’s
schools and organizations gathered in this meeting. The theme
was
“Knowing Don Bosco, Loving the Young” which matched with the
Rector
Major’s Strenna 2012 “Let us make the young our life’s mission
by
coming to know and imitate Don Bosco”.
Fr. Antonio Leung shared a short video on the Rector Major’s
Strenna.
Our Rector Major invited us to know Don Bosco’s life history
deeper in
order to re-shape his image and to continue the mission of Don
Bosco
that God had given him. This is the teaching and evangelizing
work of
the young. Serving youth is the foremost target of Salesian
discipleship. We must search them in the environment they
live.
After the brief presentation of Rector Major’s Strenna,
participants
divided into small groups and shared seriously their own
experience on
how they introduced Don Bosco to the students through the
Eucharistic
celebration, sodalities and classes. After the break, they
gathered
again to explore who is the most needy youth in their
organizations.
After the discussion, the consensuses was that the most needy
youth in
the organizations included youth with learning difficulties,
youth
without goals and the born Catholics who were confused about
their
religious identity.
Fr. Andrew Fung, Vice-Provincial of the Salesian China
Province
concluded with a sharing of his thoughts. He saw Don Bosco in
everyone
who took part in the group discussion. This was because
everyone had a
compassionate heart accepting the youth that God had given
them. When
Don Bosco served the young, the same compassionate heart
allowed him to
get closer to them. Fr. Andrew encouraged all to get to know
Don Bosco
again in the coming school year with a compassionate heart, to
enthusiastically engage in their work and work with the young
with
vitality.
During the concluding prayer, they re-studied the miracle of
Jesus in
the wedding of Cana and promised to let Our Lady to be their
guide.
They would use gentleness and love to acquire the heart of the
young,
saving their souls as Don Bosco did.
