JAPAN MEETING
CONCLUDES WITH A TOUR OF TOKYO SALESIAN PLACES
TOKYO: 7th February
'04 -- The meeting of the Delegates of Social Communications and their
respective Provincials ended February 5th, with a tour of Tokyo and an
afernoon rich in encounter with members of the Salesian Family.
Awed by
the inspiring Mt. Fuji, as seen from the expressway on a very clear day, the
participants headed to the center of Tokyo to have a glimpse of the
metropolis. From the modern to the traditional, the participants enjoyed
the sight of the Tokyo skyline from the observatory on the 45th floor of the
Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building. Later on they walked the grounds
surrounding the Imperial Palace and had a hearty Japanese lunch as part of the
half-day tour.
First hour of
the afternoon was spent shopping for Japanese souvenirs along the road that
leads to the famous temple in Asakusa. The participants then went to the
Salesian sisters Centre in Akabane. A delicious treat of snacks, laughter
and tour of the school were the first touches of what would be a very Salesian
tour. Then, at the Provincial House of the Miyazaki Caritas Sisters, the
participants were welcomed with garlands of flowers, a short academy, and treat
of Japanese tea and sweets. The warmth built by the Salesian spirit in an
already very cold afternoon was crowned by a sumptuous meal prepared by the
community of the Ikuei Salesian Polytechnic School. Thank You speeches on
behalf of the Delegates and the Provincials were delivered by Fr. Armand Robleza
(FIN) and Fr. Prathan, Provincial of Thailand for Fr. Scaramussa and the rest of
the team from Rome, Frs. Klement, Gonsalves and Butera. After the Good
Night Talk delivered by Fr. Scaramussa, Fr. Monteiro, who, as World delegate for
the Past-Pupils is in Japan to meet the alumni, sang a song he composed in
honor of our Blessed Mother. A little tour of the Design and Electrical
Departments of the school capped the day's tour.
With the agape in Ikuei
as the final activity of the EAO's Social Communications Seminar, some delegates
started going back to their own countries by the next day. The Provincials
have remained in the seminary in Chofu for 2 more days of meetings with the
regional
superior, Fr. Vaclav Klement.
