PRACTICAL TRAINEES OFFER COMMUNICATIONS
ADVICE
IBADAN (Nigeria): [Via Rualink] -- Recently twelve young
Salesians in practical training from the English-speaking West Africa Delegation
(AFW) took part in a conference in Ibadan (Nigeria) on the topic of
"Communication in an age of globalization: implications for Youth and
Religious".
They have shared with us the twelve 'tips' they agreed on as the
fruits of their meeting:
1. Recognize the means of social communication
as a special gift from God
(Const. 43)
2. Know and understand the various
means of social communication and their
positive and negative
implications.
3. Do not be enslaved to the means of social
communication.
4. Use them with prudence and caution.
5. Use them in line
with the essence of your religious identity.
6. Communicate more with the
confreres in the community than with outsiders.
7. Use the means of social
communication for the community's mission and do
not hide personal use under
the umbrella of "using it for the young".
8. Consider the cost of using them
in relation to the real needs and
affordability as every other
individual.
9. Encourage a regular review of the use of means of social
communication in
your community.
10. Remember: no external policy on the
use of means of social communication
can replace your personal commitment and
responsibility.
