HONG KONG: 4th August 2006 -- Using the theme of Youth,
Hope of Asian
Families, thousands of young people have gathered in Hong Kong,
including numerous young people associated with the Salesian
movement.
As part of the wider event, but immediately after the main events for
the youth who have come from virtually every country in Asia - and a
handful who have succeeded in gaining visas from the China mainland -
will be the gathering of Asian Youth Ministers (animators and leaders)
at the Salesian Retreat House in Cheung Chau from 5th to 9th August.
It is expected that around 75 participants including
bishops,
priests, nuns and lay people, will be at the AYM event. Guiding
the days
of recollection on 5th and 6th of August is Fr Dominic Sequiera sdb of
the Salesian Youth Ministry Department, Rome. After the days of
recollection he will remain with the group for a further day as they
begin their wider discussions and reflection on the AYD event itself.
Dominic is focusing his reflections on two themes:
'rediscovering
Jesus in myself' and 'rediscovering Jesus in my ministry'.
The overall task of the Asian Youth Ministers'
meeting is to
reflect on the AYD theme for this year in terms of ministry. It
will
attempt to evaluate youth ministry in Asia, beginning with an
examination of the success or otherwise of putting resolutions from the
last AYD (Bangalore) into practice. A further aim is to
experience
fellowship amongst youth ministers and to empower them in their role.
(Note: austraLasia will be interrupted for a week as its coordinator is
on Retreat. It will resume on 13th August - but by all means continue
to send in news items and these will be picked up and dealt with a week
later)
