PNG-SI: We Journey together
- Fr. Ambrose Pereira sdb

PORT MORESBY: 6th July 2006 -- The 60 confreres of the PNGSI delegation began the final stage of their ‘Journey together’, as they commenced the Delegation Days and the Assembly of Confreres on 5th July, 2006.  The Salesians present for the occasion will have the opportunity to discuss the Instrumentum Laboris on 6th and 7th July.  A 2/3 majority will be needed to approve the IDP (Integrated Delegation Plan), SEPP (The Delegation Salesian Educative Pastoral Plan), Delegation Directory and Formation Plan.  Steering committee members headed by Fr. Alfredo Maravilla, Fr. Roger Miranda and Fr. Escala Jess have been instrumental in compiling the 64 page document.  The Discussion papers were put together in 2005 and the different communities followed the Appreciative Inquiry method to bring about the Lineamenta from which resulted the Instrumentum Laboris.
“We have followed the ‘Process Method’ so that everyone feels part of the Journey”, said Fr. Alfred as he addressed the Salesians present for the opening.  “It is slow, tedious and time consuming, but it is ours”, he said.
The Cross flanked by Papua New Guinea and Solomon Islands symbols was the focus for opening of the Delegation Assembly.  Moving rhythmically to the beat with lighted lamps was a reminder to the Salesians to Journey along together – like Moses who led the people through the desert.  The forward and backward movements of the very simple dance was a way of measuring and reflecting on the basic structures of life and the need to journey together as pilgrims, of new challenges, of responsibility, of moments of calm and rest before important decisions and situations.  Purification of memories was to implore repentance and forgiveness and a plea for grace, blessings and fidelity.
Learn, Value and Discern were the key words that have been chosen to accompany the participants through the days of the EAC.  Punctuality, participation, listening and respect are guidelines that the Salesians will observe throughout the days.
‘Refoundation’ stated Fr. Luciano Odorico sdb, Delegate of the PNG-SI delegation “is what we need to be convinced off as we strive to revisit the origin, our foundations and the beginning of our congregation.”  A short documentary of the places of St. Francis de Sales concluded the evening.
