Vietnam's novices and prenovices celebrate Sacred
Heart HO CHI MINH CITY: 28th June 2006 -- Formation and the
Sacred Heart are a common combination in Salesian tradition - note the
number of formation communities called 'Sacred Heart Community'.
At Ba Thon (HCM) in Vietnam, on the Feast of the Sacred Heart, novices
and prenovices came together to celebrate the Feast, but it was also
the day on which the 19 novices (they began with 27) made their
application for First Profession. Of this group, 7 have applied
to be Brothers.
The day of celebration followed along tried and
proven Salesian lines. In the morning the group shared thoughts
on the significance of the Feast and of their coming together, followed
by the Eucharist and a festive meal together. In the afternoon
they had sports.
The two groups come together twice a year as a
formation event. The other occasion is the Feast of the
Immaculate Conception in December.
Several photos of the Sacred Heart encounter are
available either through ANS or sdb.org. A photo of the entire
group together emphasises the degree of vocational vitality, certainly
in terms of numbers, which Vietnam represents for the
Congregation. It is worth noting, too, the number of young
Vietnamese missionaries spread around the world, and not only in the
EAO Region. We find them in Africa and in several places in
Europe - Germany and Hungary, for example.
