Philippines South sends off missionaries - and notes
a Vatican appointment
CEBU: 30th May 2006 -- On May 18, the Salesians
and members of the Salesian Family, including the FMA, gathered in
Lawaan for the mission send off of three missionaries from the
province (Frs. Albarando, Pacada - both for Pakistan, and Bro. Jeff
Bacolod who will go to Taiwan after 1st year practical training). It
was well
attended because past missionaries were also invited together with
the lay volunteer missionaries of the province. It was a beautiful
affair wherein the province honoured all those who have gone to the
missions. All
in all they gave 43 plaques of appreciation. The hope is that by
celebrating
it this way, they can revive and instill a missionary desire among the
confreres and lay volunteers. In fact, FIS already has one lay
volunteer who would like to work in the missions.
CLAY (a Salesian lay formation movement
for committed lay people and youth)
is now preparing to transfer to Lawaan. Work of renovation has begun.
They will occupy the space below where the aspirants used to stay. The
Social Communications office will also be transferred there. In this
way FIS is really moving towards making Lawaan a formation
centre not only for future Salesians but also for their lay mission
partners and young people.
One further item of news from the Philippines.
The Holy Father, on 24th May, appointed as Auxiliary Bishop of Manila
Archdiocese, Fr Broderick Pabillo. Fr Pabillo was once a member
of the FIN province, though transferred to FIS in 1998. He
eventually sought incardination in the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerta
Princessa where he was parish priest at Macarascas. Bishop-elect
Pabillo, who hails from the island of Negros Occidental, did a year of
study in Rome but completed the remainder in the Philippines
(Parañaque).
