ET's 'Pascoa dos jovens' unites young people from one
end to the other
LIQUIZA (Timor Leste): 26th April 2006 -- More than 3000
young people gathered in Liquiza, a town in the North of
East Timor, an hour and a half's drive from Dili, to celebrate Easter
together. From Fatumaca a strong contingent of more than a hundred
young people, together with the Rector, Fr. Rui Gomes, the Novice
Master, Fr. Ramoncito Padilla, 3 practical trainees and 7 novices left
on April 22 for the happy event. After a night of preparation
(Holy Mass, rosary, reflection) and rest in Don Bosco Comoro, they
continued their journey to the site of pilgrimage and celebration.
The
priests holding youth ministry responsibilities in the two Dioceses of
Dili and Baucau, with
the support of the Youth Ministry Commission and the Salesian Youth
Movement, organized the affair. On April 23 the Bishop of
Dili, Alberto Ricardo da Silva, presided over a lively
Eucharist, with the Bishop of Baucau, Basilio do Nascimento,
and several priests concelebrating. In his homily the Bishop of Dili
urged the young people not to lose their identity as the hope of the
world, the Church and the nation and to focus on Christ the crucified,
now resurrected.
After the 3 hour Eucharistic Celebration, the large
Cross of the Young was handed over from the Parish of St.
John de
Britto of Liquiza, to the Salesian Parish of Sts. Peter and Paul, Los
Palos. Four hundred young people, together with the Rector of the
Community of Los Palos, Fr. Joao Aparicio Guterres, and the Parish
Priest, Fr. Jose de Sa, received the Cross of the Young People
of Timor with enthusiastic cheers, wonderful
songs and traditional dance and speeches, and brought it to Los
Palos, some five hours drive from
Liquiza. There it will remain for a year, going from chapel to chapel,
barrio to barrio, one missionary station to another, to give joy and
hope
to people everywhere, especially to the young. Then, by the next 2nd
Sunday of Easter, 2007, the Parish of Los Palos will organize the
Easter Celebration for young people according to our own Salesian
style and spirit. The contingent from Don Bosco Fatumaca drove
back home hoping to participate again next year in the Pascoa
dos Jovens in Los Palos.
