'Courage to lead' theme of SYM Seminar in Phnom Penh
PHNOM PENH: 6th April 2006 -- Two hundred and six (206)
people at three levels - children, older youth, adult leaders -
gathered at the Don Bosco Centre Phnom Penh from 1-3 April to tackle a
new project called CRoSS, Community Reach-out Salesian
Shelter. They gathered to be informed, formed and transformed
leaders
of society.
The seminar, organised by volunteer staff from the
Don Bosco
Children Fund, opened with enthusiasm and optimism, and participants
echoed song and cheer through the ice-breaker activities which put them
in a relaxed mood.
Animators and facilitators with WYD Cologne
experience outlined the
three practical elements of the theme: courage to think different, do
differently, lead differently. Mixing talks, songs, games and
walk
rally activities, they ensured the leaders' willing
participation. The
activities climaxed with several difficult and challenging 'scout'
exercises.
The seminar stressed the importance of relationships
as the primary
quality of leadership. In fact the motto was a time to know
and to
grow together - relationships build up leaders. The event ended
with each participant lighting the candle belonging to the person next
to them as the six animators led the two hundred non-Christian
participatns in 'Jesus as light' song and prayer.
(Note: A prayer that the minority Catholic
population will have the
courage to proclaim God's Good News is kindly requested from all
austraLasia readers. LO).
