Welcome to a new ray of sunshine, "timidement, comme
le soleil chaque matin, mais..."
LOMÉ-PORT: 7th March 2006 -- Lomé-Port is in Togo, Africa,
well out of our region. But the occasion of a brand new Salesian
Bulletin is enough to warrant a special mention in the interests of
keeping ourselves well-informed. Le Bulletin Salésien No. 1
has just hit the streets in Togo, Benin, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast,
Mali, Guinea Conakry and Senegal, the nations making up the Francophone
African Salesian Vice province called AFO. "Timidement, comme le
soleil chaque matin" says the editor, "mais avec l'intensité et
l'intention d'illuminer". As timid but as intense
as the sunrise, and with a view to shining forth.
The birth of this new Salesian Bulletin makes a
total of 53 editions of the Salesian Bulletin that we are sure of with
the possibility of three others in the making. ITM has longer
term plans - it wants to get its Provincial Newsletter well established
first - and both Japan and AFW hope to produce a Salesian Bulletin in
the near future.
Amongst significant features of this new
French-language Salesian Bulletin is that it has come into being as the
result of planning between both SDB and FMA members of AFO. To
emphasise this, we read letters of congratulations from both the Rector
Major and the Mother General in this first number. The articles
likewise reflect this cooperation.
While there is substantial textual material, there
is also no doubt that this magazine is produced to be visually
attractive, and the pics leave one in no doubt that it is Africa, and
indeed youthful Africa, at the heart of the endeavour. Most of
the articles are written by African Salesians sdb or fma.
Should anyone be interested in receiving a copy or
simply in contacting the editorial team to congratulate them, the
editor is Fr Faustino Garcia and the email address is
bulletinafo@donbosco.es One might also add that the Province
Information Bulletin from AFO is a delight to read - imaginative
layout, colourful, and obviously the shared work of many in the
province, led again by Fr Faustino. Should anyone want to look at
an example of this, and email to austraLasia is enough - a pdf copy can
be emailed back to you.
