Japan assists Don Bosco

HONIARA:
7th March 2006 -- Don Bosco’s Rural Training Centre, Tetere, took
ownership of its $ 264,000 (Solomon dollars) mechanics building and
tools on 2nd March, 2006. The mechanics building and tools
were donations from the Japanese Government in its continuous support
towards the development of Rural Training centres in Solomon Islands.

d’Affairs to Solomon Islands His Excellency Katsuhiko Kubo came to the
Centre for the official handing-over ceremony. Speaking to students, staff
and guests at the centre, Mr. Kubo said that the Japanese Government
was pleased to provide students and staff facilities to assist with
their educational activites. He said the new facilities
would certainly improve the learning environment offered by the Centre. “I am pleased that the assistance, which is a
genuine expression of goodwill by the taxpayers of Japan, will assist the
students in their education so they have important roles in the
rebuilding of this nation”, Mr. Kubo sated. Don
Bosco’s RTC enrolls over 30 mechanical students between the age of 18
and 25. “It is a great day for the rural
training centre,” said Fr. Luciano Capelli, Rector of Don Bosco
Solomons. “This building will help train
our youth for life and living. Besides it
sends a message that Japan
believes in youth and the grassroots”, he said.
