'austraLasia' #631
AUSTRALIA: COLLEGE 'LAUNCHES' YOUTH
SPIRITUALITY
MELBOURNE: 31st October -- A remarkable
glossy brochure titled 'Youth Spirituality - to love life planned as a
Christian vocation' was officially launched and distributed throughout the St,
Joseph's College Ferntree Gully community in the past week. The work of
the former Rector, Fr. John Prest sdb, along with members of the College
community, the brochure is an attractive and succinct presentation of the
essentials of Salesian youth spirituality. The five key elements are
presented under the acronym of FOCUS: Friendship with the risen Christ, Optimism
and joy, Church a great religious advetnure, Up and at it - each day's
opportunities, Satisfying experiences of serving others. The brochure
then points out 'pathways', expresses outcomes, lists five pointers for prayer
and six for action. It is designed to appeal to youth in a secular society
and post 911...as Mark Murphy, the College Religious Education Coordinator puts
it in his presentation of Salesian Youth Spirituality, "September 11 and more
recently the events of October 12 in Bali, have made us stop and contemplate the
fragility of life and the need for peace and tolerance in our world. One
of the most interesting phenomena to emerge from these tragic events has been
the coming together of people in prayer". He goes on to add that the
brochure has been designed to give 'the young men of St. Joseph's some direction
on what it is to be a Christian youth in the 21st Century'.
The College may have additonal copies of the
pamphlet available for interested persons. An email to welcome@sjcftg.melb.catholic.edu.au
would ascertain that. If all else fails, 'austraLasia' has
the brochure in PDF format and you are welcome to email us at jbfox@connect.com.fj for the item as an
