A WEBSITE TO
NETWORK "MEDIA EDUCATORS"
Peter Gonsalves
Ever heard of "Media Education"? -
the type of education to raise awareness on the way the mass media
operate; one that critically reflects on media messages and how they affect
people in society; one that trains consumers to use mass media for social
development? Well, now you can be informed about Media Education issues
through this colourful website created to network those media consumers who
prefer to use the media with a discerning mind. Welcome to: http://mediaedindia.com , possibly, one
of India's first websites exclusively dedicated to media education.
The site was inaugurated on 23rd August, 2000,
by Fr. C.M. Paul, SDB, president of UOI, the
national wing of the World Catholic Communication Organisations Unda/OCIC. The
inauguration concluded the three-day seminar on Media Education sponsored
by UOI and hosted and organised by Tej-Prasarini, Don Bosco Communications,
Mumbai - the owners and creators of the website.
The site contains basic information about
Media Education, what it is, how it is implemented, what issues matter to a
media educator, who and where are the media educators, centres, publishing
houses, what are world-wide media education links, and much much more. The
site is best seen on a 800 X 600 pixels screen setting and is open to receiving
news and views from media educators across India and the
world.________________________________________________
