"Lord to whom shall we
go...?": Final
Professions in the Region
PARAÑAQUE: 16 August
2012 -- In various parts of the Salesian world,
August 15
and also 16, the Assumption and Don Bosco's birthday
respectively, are
favourite days for first or final professions. The southern
hemisphere
often chooses January 31st, that being the summer period for
them, but
elsewhere, it is often the August dates that are chosen
Thus was the case for three clerical candidates, brother Pedro
Sachitula, Angolan, missionary to Papua New Guinea, and
currently
studying in Jersulaem (Ratisbonne), brother John G. Vudar
Rooney from
FIS, also at Ratisbonne, and brother Rosmon C. Valeciano
(FIN).
The three made their Perpetual Profession as Salesians into
the hands of Fr
Andrew Wong, EAO Regional and representing the Rector Major,
in the
Seminaryo ng Don Bosco chapel at Paranaque, Philippines. The
event took
place on the Feast of the Assumption, August 15.
Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil (Archbishop emeritus,
Guwahati)
presided at the Mass, while the homilist was Fr Andy Wong. He
encouraged the three making their final profession to keep
their 'yes'
as did Mary to the appeal from God relayed by the Angel
Gabriel.
Provincials and Delegatyes from ITM (Timeor Leste and
Indonesia), MYM,
FIS and FIN were in attendance. The Seminaryo's Curatorium
involves
these people and the Curatorium is meeting over these days.
Manila weather, as the world knows at the moment, has been
unkind and
for many, disastrous. Nevertheless, where possible family and
friends
travelled to witness the event. The combination of the
Universal and
particular Salesian celebrations in these days ensured a true
family
event.
