600 enjoy Oratory Day at Boroko
By Fr. Pankaj Paras Xalxo sdb
BOROKO-PNG: 10th September 2009 -- This year’s Oratory
Day at Boroko was one of the best in recent years, despite having to
overcome an initial financial obstacle, but Divine Providence was
generous and provided in abundance! The Delegate and Rector, Fr.
Raffy Galve, supported the cause from the outset and asked his friends
and wontoks to help. Others joined
in and – the coffers were filled.
There are two Salesian communities at East
Boroko, the Delegation House, and Savio Haus (spelt that way in this
latter case). The Oratory is run from Savio Haus, which is the
Formation community in Port Moresby.
The success of the event, as described by Fr
Xalxo, was due to involvement by everyone. The aspirants did some
thorough planning in groups and individually and the day's activities
came out more or less as planned.
The younger children enjoyed the day which ran from
10.30 – 5.00pm. The bigger boys enjoyed themselves with games of
basketball, volleyball, 'touch' (rugby) and soccer, thanks to good
referees and tight security!
The day concluded with dances, songs, prize distribution
and a light snack - and a degree of satisfaction for the aspirants and
organisers as the day came to a peaceful and enjoyable conclusion.
GLOSSARY
wontok: A term used in PNG especially, and
meaning, literally, 'someone who speaks the same language', but the
term can refer to someone from the same place - in this case it could
mean Filipinos.
