EAO: 2nd July 2009 -- Before you ask 'what on earth....?'
look again: CamelCase? Password suggestive of new digital
frontiers....a
configuration hinting at peaks and valleys - even an 'atoll'? EAO and
....cetera tolle. Are we ready now
for an EAO blog?
Some may have already noticed
that sdb.org is offering a link to a blog accompanying Don Bosco's
Casket in America South Cone region. It may take a little time for the
blog to 'take off'. The technology is all working; the blog is part of
the shift to interactivity already announced as part of the sdb.org
remake, but as always it takes a little time for members of the
Salesian Family to be aware on the one hand and, on the other, to use
these new offerings. South Cone through its Chile province has offered
to manage this blog. Essentially it is up to them.
If South Cone has one, why not us? The
Congregation's website is
offering the possibility; of
course a blog is a particular kind of animal. It needs to be
managed, moderated, and that all takes time and a little discipline. What
we now need are several people who are prepared to network with the Web
Team in Rome to help moderate such a blog. The Team will see to the
technical side. We need the managers/moderators.
In every instance a blog hosted by the
Congregation's website will
have its ultimate authority invested in those who manage that website -
its coordinator, webmaster. But we live in a networked and
collaborative world and it is time we took the appropriate steps to put
that into practice where we can.
Hence, read this as an appeal. The blog needs to be
a regional
blog, not one man's effort. We have all the possibilities for setting
up a small networked team in the region to do this. What the
Congregation is offering through
its website is the technology and a blog which can already be set up
and ready to go. The only cost is the one implied by 'cetera tolle'!
