Like the 24th, like the 31st also the 11th day of each month!
RMG, 13 January 2018 -- As in every Salesian house, also the community of Saint Joseph (Rome, Sacro Cuore - Sede Centrale Salesiana) called usually the 'Generalate' or the 'Salesian General House' has every day this important Salesian tradition of Good Night Talk.
Fr. Guillermo Basanes, General Councilor for the Missions shared in his Good Night Talk on January 11 simply the strong growing tradition in most of our provinces to pray for the missions, for the missionaries and for the new missionary vocation ad gentes. The monthly missionary newsletter 'Cagliero11' launched already in January 2009 does contribute to the growth of missionary culture.
The Missions councilor in this Good Night Talk explained the theme of the 2018 'Salesian Mission Day 2018' focused on the Initial Proclamation of Jesus in Asia, with a special accent on the Vocation Training Centers. Indeed the simple prayer card (attachment) is the most visible and simple tool in the hands of each Salesian. The Prayer card was distributed to all confreres of the community before the Good Night Talk.
At the end of his talk Fr. Guillermo explained the recent new decoration in the community chapel, a special gift of pilgrims from China province to the Rector Major. The tall image of Our Lady of Sheshan (Mary Help of Christian) and the whole text (in Chinese) of the Prayer composed by Benedict XVI for the Catholic Church in China (2007) is a daily invitation to pray for this country and its people.
We hope that each Salesian community around the EAO region will celebrate with meaning the 11th of each month!
Prayer for the Salesian Mission Day 2018
Almighty God,
Maker of heaven and earth,
who revealed Yourself to Elijah
neither in the violent wind,
nor in the earthquake,
nor in the fire,
but in the whisper of a gentle breeze,
make us docile to the whispering of the Spirit
to announce the heart of the Gospel
to the heart of the Asian continent.
May the harmonious and joyful sound
of an education that leads to employment
dignify the lives of our young people and
lead them to an encounter with Jesus,
the “Carpenter of Nazareth”.
Amen.
