austraLasia #2905 Tetere Christ King Parish gathers 1,000 mums
TETERE (SI): 17 August 2011 -- Christ the King
Salesian Parish at Tetere, out from Honiara, celebrated Our
Lady's Assumption in style: they were the venue for the
Catholic Mothers gathering, bringing in mothers from all
over the Solomon islands, from its 3 dioceses and from all
17 parishes. More than a thousand women attended from 11 to
15 August.
'Mary's virtues empower women' was the central
theme of this 5th Mothers Gathering, a biennial event. From
4 30 am to 10 00 pm each day the Mums were busy profiting
from teachings, dances, songs, lots of fun and the daily
Mass.
Important invitees were the Minister for
Women and the Family, the Minister for Education, and of
course Archbishop Adrian Smith, (sm). The Parish expressed
gratitude to the Archbishop for his concluding Mass for the
Solemnity of the Assumption, and for his closeness and
openness to the women's demands and needs. Thanks were also
expressed for the hard work from Fr Michael Lap, sdb, parish
priest, who ensured that the women really enjoyed their five
days in his parish. Many other parish priests came along
with their flock. _________________ AustraLasia
