Reporting about the Youth In Need
December 7, 2017
Hong Kong, 6 December 2017 -- Last week was delivered probably the first detailed report to the Provincial and his council about the 'Oratory' commitment within all Salesian settings of China province in Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
In more than 14 different Salesian settings of the three above mentioned territories of China province are held regular Daily or Sunday Oratory & Youth Center activities for the youth in needs. Since the 2004 Provincial Chapter of China province the Salesians call it 'an attention to the 10% youth in need.
Not yet complete province report (Taipei SJB Parish starting Sunday Oratory and Nan Tau Oratory are missing in the report) mentions more than 7200 enrolled children and youth enrolled or registered in these Oratory activities. Every week more than 950 of them spend their free time in the Salesian environment assisted by more than 25 Salesians, 22 lay staff and 100 volunteers.
Most of the Oratory activities are carried out in our 17 different Salesian schools. The activities of Youth Outreach in Hong Kong (https://www.youthoutreach.org.hk/ENG) with 45.000 young people assisted every year by 150 lay staff and one Salesian. A special new development is observed in the Tung Chung Oratory started 5 years ago by the Salesian Cooperators within the compound of one public school.
Br. Francis Lam also reported the lack of lay mission partners adequate formation as the main challenge in order to guarantee the quality mission with diminishing number of involved Salesians.
