Gabutu (PM) PNG, 16 February 2021 -- In preparation for the feast of St. John Bosco, parishioners, the staff of Don Bosco Technical School (DBTS) and their families gathered for a time of spiritual journey through the Novena prayers.
Organized by the Salesian community of Gabutu, the nine days of prayer was held from Friday, 22nd to Saturday, 30th January with each day marked by a specific theme and intention.
The Novena consisted of the recitation of the Holy Rosary, the Novena prayer proper and a good night talk were given by Fr. Pedro Sachitula, Fr. Angelo Fazzini and Br. Reto Wanner.
The good nights were very informative and formative. They helped the participants to get to know St. John Bosco and to imitate his virtues. One striking feature highlighted in the good night talks was Don Bosco’s “three white loves”, that is the Eucharist, the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Pope.
The sacraments of confession and eucharist were also made available for the participants. On Friday, January 29, a Solemn Eucharist was celebrated in the Church of Gabutu, presided over by Fr. Greg SDB, the Provincial Superior and concelebrated by Fr. Pedro SDB, while Fr. Angelo and Fr. Eduardo sat for confessions.
“Within the novena days, through Mama Mary’s intercession and St. John Bosco, I felt more peace, patience, joy and strength to face each day’s challenges with hope. Alone I cannot face all of life’s challenge,” said Latova Schulz, a member of the Association of Mary Help (ADMA).
The Novena of St. John Bosco was an experience of prayer and formation, a source of inspiration and engagement for the members of the Salesian Family.
