5556(I)_Manga style poster of Strenna 2021 by Guri Suzuki - Japan
January 22, 2021
EAO Region, 22 January 2021 -- Along with the 'official' ANS sponsored Strenna 2021 poster, made this year in Argentina, other national versions are being produced and circulated. The EAO Region for the past few years was eagerly waiting for the 'Made in Japan' Strenna poster that was officially released on 14 January 2021 by the Social Communication office in Tokyo, Japan (GIA province). As usual, this Strenna poster is part of the Japan province yearly animation, including the sketch of the poster passing through the rectors meeting at the end of the previous year.
The illustration for the Japanese version of the poster was again created by Guri Suzuki of the manga "Coraggio!" It depicts the moment when Don Bosco and the young people and children found their direction and hope, as the Risen Jesus Christ points out a new horizon illuminated by rainbows and light after the dark clouds pass away. Don Bosco with Jesus and the young ara sailing on a boat going through storms and rough waves. Grigio and the animals on the boat together represent our care for our common home on the Earth.
Actually the basic inspiration for this 'Moved by Hope' Strenna 2021 poster is the homily on March 27 at the beginning of the pandemic, when Pope Francis shared this Gospel story of Jesus who is sailing with us, as a paradigm of our life in these challenging times (cf. Mark 4,35-41).
A famous Manga Artist, Mr. Guri Suzuki has had a lengthy collaboration over years with the Salesian Province of Japan since the preparation for the celebrations of DB 200 (2015). Mr Suzuki is very happy to share his illustrations with the Salesian world, since many EAO provinces and Social Communication related Salesians request it each year. The poster version without 'no' script can be shared on two conditions:
1. Use the image with logo marks and credit "(c)Guri Suzuki". Logo marks and the copyright credit are on the JPEG file. You don't have to do anything.
2. Inform the SC office of Japan province (GIA) in Tokyo and send the file(s) AFTER using the image via email: koho@salesians.jp about how this adapted image(s) has been used. ”AFTER” means that anyone can use the image without permission. It is our HOPE to be informed.
We are grateful to the SC office of Japan province and will inform them of the use of this wonderful, attractive and beautiful Salesian image that places Jesus, Don Bosco, his Salesians and many young people in one boat of hope (2021).
