austraLasia #2854 Special General assembly of the Salesian Cooperators
Japan.
TOKYO: 9 May 2011 -- Saturday 7 May saw the three
yearly Special General Assembly of the Salesian Cooperators
in Japan take place at Chofu. The event, which began late
morning, was attended by some forty Cooperators representing
the twelve groups in the Province. It concluded in the
afternoon. During Mass, at which the Provincial, Fr Aldo
Cipriani presided, three new candidates made their promise
and entered Don Bosco's ranks. There are 144 Salesian
Cooperators in Japan.
During the meeting, led by the newly
elected coordinator, Mrs Catherine Maruyama, assisted by the
new members of the Provincial Council, the report on the
previous year's activities was presented. The year in Japan
concludes on 31 March.
They looked at activity for the coming year. The first major
appointment will be the meeting of the provincial councils
for the four Salesian Family Groups in Japan. This will be
on Thursday 12 May at the Sisters of Charity of Jesus..
A number of the Japanese Salesian
Cooperators are advanced in age, some are sick, which means
they are limited to prayer as their means of participation,
but Blessed Alexandrina Maria Da Costa teaches us how it is
possible to cooperate with Don Bosco even when confined to a
bed of suffering. The group considered how it might be
strengthened with new and young members to accomplish in
Japanese society what Don Bosco might do if he were here
amongst us today. _________________
