TWO SDBs ELECTED LEADERS OF INDIAN COMMUNICATION
BODIES
CALCUTTA: 28th March -- The Indian Catholic Press
Association has a new president in the person of Salesian Fr. George
Plathottam. The appointment came at the end of the 6th national meeting of
the ICPA which took place on March 17-18 in Mumbai.
Amongst other things the asembly examined the
sitaution of Catholic journalism in India. The new president explained
that 'the greatest priority for Indian Catholic Journalists today is to build a
link, a network, among ourselves and the world of the mass media...if there is
no networking among Catholic publishers, journalists and communications experts,
the efforts of the Church to maintain its unique role as a light to the nations
will be in jeopardy'.
Barely a week before the ICPA elections, Salesian
C.M. Paul was re-elected president of UNDA-OCIC India, for a second term.
This re-appointment was the unanimous choice of the assembly of Indian Church
Communicators who met at the Pastoral Centre, Goa, from March
11-16.
Both Fr. George Plathottam and Fr. C.M. Paul have
contributed actively in Church communication ministry in various
capacities. Fr. George is director of Don Bosco Publications Guwahati,
which promotes Christian and educational literature in he North Easter regions
of India. Fr. C.M. Paul is director of the Calcutta-based production House
called Nikita. A year ago they were both involved in the production of the
