Constant growth of Provincial Mission Office in Seoul
November 5, 2017
Seoul, Korea, 5 November 2017 -- Four years after the foundation of the Provincial Mission Office in Seoul we are glad to share our steadfast growth journey of the youngest 'Procura' in the EAO region - 'NANUM DON BOSCO' (in English - SHARING).
Our office is based in the SDB Provincial House in Seoul (3rd floor) with Fr. Isidore Hong (KOR provincial economer) and two lay mission partners (full time). Another mission related office is located in the same building 'Fr. John Lee Memorial Foundation' (started with South Sudan support, now is open to many other mission destinations) . There is a good level of synergy between the two independent structures with a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) in 2015.
Our donors (4000+ in 2015, 3000+ in 2016 and 2017) are contributed on annual basis, most of the new donors are met in the Seoul archdiocese parish mission appeal. Over past 3 years we developed quite clear process for the mission: April to October (application for the projects), January (selection of the projects and informing the mission), February (fund transfer) and in November we review submitted projects.
Each year we have some special events like parish 'bazar' or running marathon as fundraising for a specific Salesian mission. In order to build the community of donors we publish a bi-monthly NANUM newsletter of the Mission Office and we are also sending the Salesian Bulletin every two months. Every year we send to the donors a Christmas card and publish for them an Annual Report. For the managment of donors we use an established simple software and provide a receipt for contribution, so all donoers can get a tax benefit from the government. There is a monthly Mass celebrated for all supporters as well the Online community.
Most of our Mission Office projects are supporting Salesians in Africa (South Sudan, RD Congo, Zambia, Malawi) and in Asia (Timor Leste, Mongolia, Cambodia, Philippines, Nepal) or in Oceania (Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea).
Through the contact with other Mission Offices (World level meeting in Rome, January 2017) and the visit of Fr. MC George, SDB (World coordinator of the Mission Offices) last September we are learning little by little from the rich experience of the Salesian Congregation in missions support. All of us are excited to welcome next March 2018 other Mission Office Directors and Provincial Economers in the EAO meeting with Br. Jean Paul Muller in Seoul.
