World Youth Day 2008
TETERE (SI): 5th December 2007 -- On Friday 30th November,
Don Bosco Tetere celebrated its 2nd Graduation Day. The programme
began with a Thanksgiving Eucharistic celebration at Christ the King
Parish Hall presided over by Fr Cor Hooymayers SM, Chancellor of the
Archdiocese of Honiara. In his homily he highlighted a need of
the Solomon Islands - for people who can work with their hands.
He congratulated the 22 graduates on their completing a two year
training in Agriculture with an additional training in Mechanics,
Carpentry or Welding.
The Graduation rite took place at 10.00 am. Officers
from the Ministry of Agriculture and the RTC Centre could not attend,
though they were scheduled to be there. Joseph Heno, Head Boy for the
1st Year, welcomed the assembly. Mr David Huang, leader of the Taiwan
Technical Mission, with three of his helpers, attended the function and
gave an inspiring message, distributing certificates to the students
who had completed a six month practical training at the Taiwan Mission.
Fr Dominic Kachira SDB, Centre Director, expressed
the hope that the graduates would be a blessing to their families, the
community and the nation, by using their knowledge and skills
creatively.
Fr Cor blessed the certificates and prizes which
were distributed to deserving graduates and undergraduates for
outstanding performance. A sponsorship of SID 4,000 was awarded
to each of two meritorious students who would represent the Centre at
the World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney. Bro Tanaka SDB, Principal,
awarded the same to Miss Evalyn Veni and Master Andrew Mose. Cash
obtained from the sale of agricultural products gained from student
effort was distributed amongst graduates. _________________ AustraLasia is an
