MAKATI CITY: 2nd December 2007 -- At
the heart of the busy business district of Makati City near
Manila, Salesians from the different communities of the Philippines
North Province (FIN) gathered to thank the Lord for having received a
great
gift in the presence Fr. Andrew Wong as their provincial superior. The
celebration was not solely for Fr. Provincial but also for
the Jubilarians who celebrated twenty-five years of profession
(Fr. Noel Osial, Fr. Cris Magbitang, Fr. Patrick Villasanta, Fr. Dennis
Meim, Fr. Elmer Sicat), fifty years of profession (Fr. John Andreu and
Br. Luigi Parolin), and 25 years of ordination (Fr. Chito Dimaranan and
Fr. Philip Lazatin).
The whole day of activities began with a Eucharistic
celebration presided over by Fr. Provincial and the Jubilarians. Fr.
John
Andreu compared each Salesian to a pawn in a chess game. Should the
pawns be all eaten up, the game would be difficult. The Mass was
followed
by a variety show from Salesians, prenovices and aspirants
facilitated by Bros. Jomar Castillo and Joji Inocentes as emcees.
Gifts for the Jubilarians were also given during the gratitude program.
The Salesian Basketball League Championship and a football match
(aspirants/postnovices against the students of theology)
capped off the afternoon. It was a day of fun and gratitude.
Fr. Provincial emphasised that Provincial Day is not
centered on the superior but on every confrere's heart that keeps the
love of Don Bosco burning for the young. It is a day of gratitude to
every confrere who contributes to the growth of the province in big or
little ways. He also acknowledge the important presence of the
confreres in initial formation from different provinces of the
East-Asia
Oceania (EAO) Region and the Filipino aspirants and prenovices who are
the future of the congregation and the province.
