JAKARTA (ITM): 15th October 2007 -- Wednesday 17th October sees
an interesting pilgrimage setting off for Dili, East Timor. Last
year, in May, a pilgrimage was undertaken by an Indonesian group of
friends and Cooperators-to-be. They went to Spain, Rome, Turin -
joining in with the Mass and procession of Mary Help of Christians in
Valdocco. It was a wonderful learning experience for the 17
pilgrims, seeing the works Don Bosco began in Europe.
Many months later, the thought arose - 'But what
about making a pilgrimage to understand how Don Bosco began in the vice
province of Indonesia-East Timor (ITM)? So now, led by Fr Boedi
Soerjonto SDB, another group, consisting of 11 people, is setting out
to visit the SDB (8 Houses) and FMA (6 Houses) presence in East
Timor. The pilgrims will take along some material aid for
distribution to orphans in East Timor. The highlight of the visit
will be the priestly ordination of 4 Timorese Salesians in the parish
of LosPalos on 20th October.
The pilgrimage has been on offer to interested
persons in St John Bosco Parish in Jakarta. Most of those who have
taken up the offer are also aspiring to be Salesian Cooperators, so the
pilgrimage now becomes part of their formation. It will be their
first visit to East Timor. _________________ AustraLasia is an
