The Lord is truly risen! Happy
Easter!
Cardinal Zen says good bye
HONG KONG: 11-12th April 2009 -- Washing children's feet on Holy
Thursday was one element of Cardinal Zen's farewell to the Hong Kong
Diocese, and wholly consistent with his stance on behalf of the poor,
the needy, the young, as Bishop of that diocese. But it was time
to say goodbye. Earlier in the week he had struck a similar note at the
Chrism Mass, telling his priests in particular, that "today, more than
ever, the people need prophets and priests because there are so many
poor people in the world, materially and spiritually".
Cardinal Zen will preside at the Easter Vigil where
he will baptise catechumens, but following the Easter Sunday Mass in
Kowloon will step down from direction of the Diocese he has so
prominently guided over the past dozen years and hand over to Bishop
John Tong Hon.
The cardinal hopes to continue his interest in
issues close to his heart and to the heart of Pope Benedict, especially
where it concerns religious freedom on the mainland.
