HONG KONG: 22nd August 2007 -- Even though it is still 10
months away, and indeed following a Salesian General Chapter, nothing
stops the EAO steamroller from moving forward! While much the of
the Salesian world is focused as far as February-April 2008 (the
estimated period for the SDB 26th General Chapter), the EAR (East Asia
Region) Salesian Cooperators are focused on May 22-25 2008 or more
accurately, until 27th May since they are adding on two days for
Delegate Formation following the Congress.
With these dates and events in mind, the Leadership
of the Salesian Cooperators in EAR, with the direct support also of
Philip Yu, the region's representative on the World Consulting
Body. has prepared two surveys, one for Salesian Cooperator
Members, the other for Delegates. These two surveys (Excel files)
are available on Bosconet - in the usual spot, on the Home Page, on the
right hand side you will find a new reference to the Macau Conference
2008. The survey files can be easily downloaded from the page
that link takes you to.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway in many parts of the
Region to ensure that the newly revised and approved Statues 'ad
experimentum', and Regulations are translated into local
languages for the Region. Certainly Thai is complete,
Japanese nearly. Oddly enough, the revised set is not currently
posted on Bosconet - there is a minor discrepancy in the translations
which we hope to resolve over the next week or so. Once that has
been resolved, the new set will be posted.
Over the past year, austraLasia has been able to
grow in the involvement of different member groups of the Salesian
Family. The Salesian Sisters are regular contributors, readers,
for example - and this close involvement has enabled us to work through
one or two tricky moments (if you have been reading your aLa recently,
you will be aware of that) to the benefit of all. Perhaps it is
now time to encourage a greater involvement on the Part of the Salesian
Cooperators? That would mean inviting members to send in news of
events concerning them and the Salesian Family in their area. _________________ AustraLasia is an

as an
agency for ANS based in
