To the Rector of the house at Mornese, Fr Giovanni Battista Francesia

In the absence of Fr Rua, he finds himself with many urgent liabilities — he asks for all available money to be sent to him.

Turin, 8 November 1878

My dear Fr Francesia,

Let’s see how far your fame goes. Fr Rua went to Paris and his left me literally without any quibus [money] and a pile of liabilities, all urgent.

So, for poor Don Bosco, set aside all the money you have available; in fact, if you can, take out a loan, and then on Monday or Tuesday bring me as much as you can, but no less than 20,000 francs. NB: if you bring me a good marsupium We'll have a nice lunch with several friends. You'll see. We'll also talk about our business.

May God bless you, ever dear Fr Francesia, greet all our dear ones and pray for me who will always be in J.C.

Your most affectionate friend

Fr John Bosco
