Proposes several of the clergy for possible episcopal appointment

Rome, 12 September 1871

Your Eminence,

Consider things carefully before the Lord. After offering special prayers, it seems to me that the following can be proposed as models of pastoral life:

1. Bottino Gio. Batta Fr, canon and curate of the Metropolitan Church, renowned preacher.

2. Fissore Celestino, canon, idem. Already for many years Vic. General of the diocese of Turin, distinguished associate professor and canon lawyer.

3. Oreglia Giorgio, Canon, Provost Vicar General of the Diocese of Fossano. All three are well-off-

Canon Luigi Nasi is highly esteemed, but in very poor health.

Can. Gazzella and Can. Morozzo would be eligible because they are well liked by the sovereign, but in this case they would be less suitable than Can. Fissore Celestino, Bottino Gio.Batta and Oreglia Giorgio.

Less appropriate would be Provost Gasti, Vicar Forane of Castel Ceriolo. But he is highly regarded by the King, who is very fond of him despite his sound doctrine.

Msgr Scotton Andrea, canon of Bassano Veneto, preached with great success in the Metropolitan Cathedral of Turin this year. He showed himself to be pious and very learned. From many works and reports, he appears worthy of consideration. He is a wealthy man, in good health and very courageous.

Many recommend Canon Siboni, Vicar General of Albenga.

Bishop Gastaldi, Bishop of Saluzzo, is highly regarded in Turin for his knowledge and piety. As an associate professor of theology, he can contribute greatly to tempering the studies of the University of Turin, of which he would be a member.
