Invitation to accept membership in the Union of Salesian Cooperators

Turin, May 1878

Your Royal Majesties,

The Catholic principles that Your Royal Majesties have always been proud to profess, not to mention the eminent religious piety of your souls, has inspired the humble writer to beg you to allow him to adorn the Pious Union of Salesian Cooperators with your august name. Established and enriched with spiritual graces by the glorious Pius IX of blessed memory, it was promoted by the reigning Pontiff, who is also a member.

Trusting that Your Majesties will grant my wishes, I enclose the relevant certificate and regulations, while praying to God to shower your with every blessing.

Your Royal Majesties’

most humble, devout and affectionate servant,

Fr John Bosco

1 Formerly King of France for a short period in 1830, as pretender to the throne, he resided abroad in Austria with the former queen.
