ISSUE NO. # 6 VOLUME 3 JUNE 2010
“50 Years and Onward since 1960, giving Hope and Love”
50th Golden Anniversary of Bacolod Boys’ Home
Fifty years had passed.
Bacolod Boys’s Home – the social welfare institution founded by the late Fr. Gratian Murray AFSC.
in partnership with the Local City of Bacolod continues to provide shelters for the abandoned and
neglected boys. The complex is found at Barangay Granada, 12 kms from the City of Bacolod. The
children and youth in need of especial attention over 85 of them are housed in the 7 acres of land. Simple
facilities that respond to their bio-physical, affective, intellectual and spiritual needs; completing their
basic and high school education at the nearby public school of Fr. Gratian Integrated High School.
Through the years the institution has sheltered over 2000 kids; helped 11 priests that are incardinated in
the different dioceses and members of religious congregations. At the present Boys’ Home continues to
help 6 seminarians who are in their philosophical and theological studies. Others are pursuing college
degrees at different colleges; and studying vocational training program at Don Bosco - Victorias and
government vocational institutions. Many of the graduates are now placed in the mainstream of our
society.
Such many success stories ushers us to celebrate with joy the 50 Golden Anniversary of Bacolod
Boys’ Home. The golden anniversary is dubbed as “50 years onward since 1960, giving hope and love”

The highlight of the festivity is the concelebrated mass at 10 am in the morning followed by the
“Lunch for a cause” whose benefits would be for the college and vocational training studies of the
deserving graduates of Boys’ Home. Finally, the expressions of appreciation and gratitude for the 7
posthumous major benefactors, 36 major benefactors, and 64 minor benefactors of Bacolod Boy’s Home
will follow.
The expressions of appreciation for the benefactors will also be featured before the concert of
“Michel Jackson Experience” featured by the American singer and dancer Kenny Wizz at the La Salle
Coliseum. This is a joint project of the Don Bosco Alumni Batch 86 and the Bacolod Boys’ Home
Foundation, Inc.
The golden celebration of the complex ushers in a new feature in the running of the complex in
the next following years. The ratification by the City Council last August 2009 of the Memorandum of
Agreement MOA between the the Local Government of Bacolod and the assisting agencies: University of
La Salle Bacolod, Bacolod Boys’ Home Foundation Inc., and the supervising agency: Salesians of Don
Bosco South, has given direction in the administration and program implementations for the welfare of
the children.
Let’s continue to support such profound work that addresses the plight of the
marginalized kids. With one mind with the Church: “Within the community of believers
there can never be room for a poverty that denies anyone what is needed for a
dignified life”
(Benedict XVI, Deus Caritas Est, 20).
