FR. Stanislaus Swamikannu, appointed 12th
Provincial of Chennai Province

MATUNGA, 12 January 2005: The Provincial of Chennai,
Fr. Bellarmine Fernando has sent an official letter expressing his joy in
informing the chennai province of their new Provincial for the Chennai Province,
Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu. Fr. Stanislaus will assume office on Saturday 5th
February 2005. The letter of Fr. Bellarmine follows:
`I am
happy to inform you that our Rector Major Very Rev. Fr. Pascual Chavez, has
appointed Rev. Fr. Stanislaus Swamikannu, the present Vice Provincial of the
Province of Chennai(INM) as the 12th provincial for the
Province.
`He did his Novitiate at The Retreat –
Yercaud, under the able guidance of Fr. Mampara and made his first profession on
24 May 1978. Having completed B.Ph at The Retreat Yercaud, he was sent to Jnana
Deepa Vidyapeeth – Pune, for Masters in Philosophy (M.Ph). He taught Philosophy
for two years at The Retreat – Yercaud and then moved on to Luvain University –
Belgium, for completing Licentiate in Theology. He was ordained a Priest on 18
August 1988. He taught Philosophy at The Retreat – Yercaud from 1990-1993 and
then proceeded to complete Doctorate in Philosophy at the Luvain University.
Having completed Doctorate in Philosophy he was appointed Vice Rector, Principal
and Dean of Studies at Yercaud, for three years (1995 – 1998). He was then sent
to Don Bosco – Egmore, Chennai as Rector (May 1998 – 2002), during which he was
also Provincial Councilor. From May 2002 until the appointment he was the Vice
Provincial. The installation will take place on Saturday 5 February 2005 at the
Citadel.

further notes that Fr John Horan has been appointed as Provincial in Ireland for
the next six years. This will be John's second appointment in that role
having been provincial from 1993-99.
