GUWAHATI: PEACE CALL FOR END TO
INSURGENCY
GUWAHATI: (INDIA) - 14th December - "There are
various reasons for the growth of militancy in the North-east — political,
ethnic, economic, but it is the fear of exploitation and domination that is
overwhelming the North-east psyche. It is a crisis of identity, a fear of
extinction", said Mr R.S Mooshahary, Director General of National Security
Guards, while addressing the "Peace Initiative Convention" held under the
auspices of Don Bosco Youth and Educational Services (DBYES), province of
Guwahati (ING), with an organizing committee headed by Mr H N Das, former chief
secretary of the sate of Assam.
Presenting a women’s perspective on
peace, Dr Mahfuza Rahman, executive director, Rashtriya Gramin Vikash Nidhi,
expressed the view that parents have a great responsibility to curb
violence. She said the woman have a role to play to stop corruption and violence
at the household level.
An interactive
panel discussion expressed concern over the way in which the level of violence
had been growing in the region. Peace making needs to be an organized sort of a
movement and for that the mindset of the people which has to be changed.
After the panel discussion, in the evening, thousands participated in a candle
light procession and followed by peace festival.
Father VM Thomas SDB,
director, DBYES, said that we have to think together to make strategies and
plans that can take us closer to the reality of
peace.
