Jubilarians celebration brings Salesians together
from India and East Africa
PADIVAYAL (Bangalore): 29th October 2005 -- Not every
celebration for jubilarians makes the news; such celebrations tend to
be of rather local interest, but when the list of jubilarians and
others attending reads like a 'who's who' in one of the Salesian
world's largest settings - India in this case - then it is news!
There were five jubilarians from Bangalore province, amongst them
well-known names like 'TJ' Thekkedathu, ex-Rector of Kristu Jyothi
College, perhaps better known outside of India for his mammoth and
well-received 'History of Salesians in India' recently published.
His celebration was a double-whammy: diamond jubilee of profession and
golden of ordination.
And amongst the the list of names present for the
event: Fr Joaquim D'Souza, Regional, Fr Thomas Panakhezam,
ex-Regional. There were some 80 Salesians present for the
occasion and these included some from the East Africa Province.
The remaining jubilarians are: Bro M.O. Mathew, Fr VG (Vallicherry
Mathew), Fr Antony Mampra, Fr George Kottri. It is interesting to
note that all five have been and to some extent remain in formation
work.
