Salesian Brother 2006: some extra efforts being made
around the region
ROME: 19th September 2005 -- Some extraordinary
efforts are in place around the EAO region with regard to the call to
Salesian lay consecration - as a Brother. IN the past week, a
letter from Fr Klement has gone out to as many Brothers personally as
we can find email addresses for, but the same letter has gone to
Provincials, Formation personnel. As with any email 'broadcast'
of this type, a number return as 'address unknown', but it has to be
said that there has been a good response to the reminder that a
questionnaire in view of next year's meeting of Brothers in Cambodia
should be returned by mid-October. Responses have come most
recently from Australia and the Philippines.
In the meantime a special effort is being made in
the Philippines North Province, under the direction of Fr Mon, a member
of the DB Seminaryo Paranaque community and currently coordinator for
the Salesian Brother vocation in FIN (he is also Vocation animator for
the province). Fr Mon has sent out a letter to 34 Brothers in the
province, 21 of them Filipinos, 6 Vietnamese, 4 Koreans, 2 Japanese and
1 Spaniard. The letter is actually a follow-up to the Provincial
Assembly and concerns the promotion and care of the Salesian Brother
vocation.
In addition to requesting responses to the
questionnaire in preparation for the regional seminar, the letter
outlines a number of initiatives which may be of interest to other
provinces: bimonthly encounter between prenovices, postnovices and
Salesian Brothers studying at Paranaque; quarterly gatherings of all
Salesian Brothers in the province, including a combined effort with the
13 Brothers belonging to the Cebu (FIS) province. This is
scheduled for May of next year. The 15th of each month has been
proposed as a day to encourage community devotion to Blessed Artemides
Zatti.
There is an encouragement also to keep in touch with
the regularly updated www.bosconet.aust.com (Bosconet) section on the
Salesian Brother Regional Seminar 2006.
