Mamma Margaret Rally attracts thousands of
youth in Sri Lanka
DUNGALPITYA: 6th November 2006 -- The Sri Lankan Vice Province Youth Commission has
just carried off a magnificent celebration in honour of Mamma Margaret,
bringing some two thousand youth together and attended by Salesians from Sri
Lanka and overseas. Brother Michael Lynch from Australia, who heads up the
Australian Salesian Missions Overseas Aid Fund (ASMOAF), was one of those who
lit a lamp as part of the celebrations. The big hall at the Provincial House,
at Dungalpitya in Sri Lanka was a riot of colours as youth from all over the
country poured in to a hall with a stage back drop showing Mamma Margaret
surrounded by enthusiastic Sri Lankan youth. The caption in Sinhalese on the
stage read: Mother our strength in our life's journey.
Fr. Anthony Pinto, Superior of the Vice Province welcomed
the Youth and declared the Rally open. He highlighted the meaning of this
celebration and spoke of the courage and generosity of this mother. A popular
charismatic Salesian animator, Brother Charles, presented the figure of Mamma
Margaret with the help of a musical troupe, and sang the praises of a mother
who builds her family. Young Salesians from the studentate of Philosophy sang
a hymn with words and music they had composed.
