KARGHULI,
GUWAHATI 1 January
2013
-- Don Bosco
Institute,
Guwahati, Assam, is the venue for the largest meeting of
Salesian
Brothers ever held in the South Asia Region. And amongst the
160
delegates present are a number invited from outside the
Region - three
Brothers from ITM, one from Uganda (AGL), one from Ethiopia
( ATE,
studying Computer Science at Don Bosco University in
Guwahati) and one
from Ghana (AFW) along with his Vice Provincial. The South
Asia
Brothers Congress, adopting the theme 'Be holy!', commenced
on 30
December and concludes on 3 January.
The Brothers Congress, following on from a similar event held
in the
EAO Region several months back, is able to draw on the long,
broad
experience of the Salesian lay vocation in South Asia. Many of
the
Brothers are principals of schools, managers and
superintendents of
major technical and vocational education centres and
activities, or
playing important roles in formation communities.
The Congress, opened officially by the Regional for South
Asia, Fr
Maria Arokiam, also has a fair sprinkling of Bishops and
Provincials! The Provincials of Guwahati, Silchar,
Mumbai,
Kolkata are present, as also Archbishop Dominic Jala sdb ffrom
Shillong
and Bishop George Palluiparampil sdb from Miao.
Talks include:
'Salesian holiness re-read from an historical perspective',
'The
Brother's call to holiness', 'Holiness of the contemporary
Salesian in
a globalised world', 'Holiness ans wholeness', 'Salesian
holiness and
the world of work'. The focus is clearly in preparation for
the
Bicentenary of Don Bosco's birth in 2015, and the leadup to
this as
expressed in the Rector Major's Strenna for 2014 on Don
Bosco's
spirituality.
