Subject: Correspondence and submission of legal and administrative files



Dear Fr. Provincial, Provincial Vicar,

Provincial Economer and Provincial Secretary,


I hope that you and the confreres of the Province are well and that your work proceeds serenely.


Hereby I indicate some organizational notes about the correspondence with the Rector Major, the Vicar of the Rector Major, some General Councillors, the Secretary General and the Procurator General. In order to ensure a prompt response to your requests, proper archiving of documentation and coordination in the work of the General Council, I ask for your attention regarding the sending of correspondence, information and legal and administrative practices, according to the following indications:


To the Rector Major

  • confidential letters and messages


To the Vicar of the Rector Major

  • immediate information on reports of child abuse cases

  • sending the canonical investigation for reporting child abuse

  • information on relevant shortcomings in religious discipline and submission of conclusions

  • requests for final transfer to another province

  • confidential letters and messages


To the General Councillor for the Missions

  • requests for the distribution of funds by the Rector Major and the Council to be sent by March 31 and by September 30 also to the General Economer

  • written requests for availability to be sent as a missionary.



To the General Economer

  • construction permits

  • authorisations for bank loans or credit lines

  • authorizations for inheritance, purchases and sales

  • scholarships and aid for formation

  • requests for the approval of projects to be sent to procures or NGOs

  • requests for the distribution of funds by the Rector Major and the Council to be sent by March 31 and September 30 also to the Councillor for the Missions

  • requests for information on the progress of the files submitted.


To the Secretary General

  • appointments of rectors and provincial councillors

  • opening or closing of works

  • canonical opening or closing of communities

  • secularisation, dispensation from celibacy, dismissal, indult from temporary or perpetual profession, transfer to another institute, ...

  • requests for opinions and information on the progress of the files submitted.


To the Procurator General

  • requests for opinions on the documentation to be prepared and on the procedures to be followed in cases of a request for an indult to leave the Institute with incardination in a Diocese by a cleric, dispensation from celibacy, initiation of a canonical investigation, and the procedure for dismissal from the Institute;

  • requests for letters of invitation to Salesians to obtain a visa to enter Italy.


The requests sent to the Secretary General, the General Economer and the Councillor for the Missions are always addressed to the Rector Major. The Secretary General and the General Economer in turn send these files to the Regional Councillors and the Sector Councillors to hear their opinion before they are presented to the General Council.
