A special YP International Congress on the Preventive System and Human Rights was held in Rome,
Italy on January 2-6, 2009. Participated by 300 representatives of 130 countries, participants advocated for
the promotion of Human Rights especially of children and young people.
Don Bosco Chil-
dren Fund was repre-
sented by the DBCF
Director, Fr. Leo Ochoa.
He said that the con-
gress was more an ex-
change of experiences
from 150 years of Sale-
sian Family’s involve-
ment for the promotion
and protection of those
rights which jurists would define as rights of children and young people especially on the Salesian preferential
option for the poor and vulnerable.
The Congress was an answer to the Rector Majors’s dramatic chal-
lenge: “Rehabilitate YOUTHS, VICTIM of negative experiences”.

Two words, Education and Development, always serve as key words in DBCF value education to the
children. After class hours most children sacrifice their leisure time for games in order help the family. DBCF
promotes that education is directed to the full development of the human personality and to the strengthening
of respect to human rights and fundamental freedoms.
Education promotes understanding, tolerance and friendship. It maintains peace. In DBCF, in fact, the
name for peace is “Education and Development”. DBCF thanks all benefactors who supports us in helping
children go to school and receive education. It is, in fact, in keeping with their dignity as human being.
Education promotes understanding, tolerance, and friend-
ship. And above all, it maintains peace. In Don Bosco Children
Fund, the new name for peace is “Education and Development”.
