January 24, 2017

By Fr. Joseph Noppadol, SDB

Surathani, Thailand, 23 January 2017 -- The Salesians (SDB) of the Thai Province in cooperation with the Daughters of Mary Help of Christians (FMA) and the Sisters of Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (SIHM) have responded to the needs of people afflicted by the natural disasters and flooding in the southern provinces of Thailand.

Bishop of Surathani, Joseph Prathan Sridarunsil SDB, asked in his circlar letter for some help and support for those who have been affected by the floods in some provinces under the pastoral care of his Diocese.

Fr Peter Nopphadon Joseph, the SDB provincial delegate of Youth Ministry, the FMA Sisters of Marie Uppatham school Sampran, and the SIHM Sisters recently travelled to visit, encourage and distribute the required relief support to the people in Bang Saphan and especially in Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces. In this flood affected area are living Fr.Danieli Henry (parish priest of Our Lady Church) along with Fr Rossignolo Renzo (parish priest of Saint Dominic Savio Church). This small Salesian Family joint flood relief team distribute hundreds of food and emergency kits for the suffering families in this area. It’s a visible expression of our desire to be with suffering people and support them as much as possible.

In this difficult situation, we as the Salesian Family have attempted to be with those in need through our actions and in solidarity, particularly through our prayers. Even though we did not expect this out-of-season floods, God works through it and brings us together in love and charity.
