(By way of explanation - the previous aLa was sent 'on the road' and numbered #2590 when I didn't have access to the list. 2589 fills in the missing number!)

Samoan Teachers reflect: Educating with the Heart of Don Bosco

ALAFUA: 8th February -- As part of their Staff Conference to commence the 2010 school year the staff of Don Bosco Technical Centre, Alafua, Samoa, spent time coming to know Don Bosco and his Preventive System more deeply and reflecting on their role as Salesian Educators. The event took place towards the end of January.
Fr Bernie Graham sdb, Delegate for Youth Ministry for the Australia-Pacific province, provided input and led the reflection process over three extended sessions, one each day, under the theme “Educating with the Heart of Don Bosco”. The three sessions were:
1.Don Bosco and the Preventive System
2.The Preventive System and the Gospels
3.A Salesian Educational Vision for Samoa
The conference also included the Celebration of Eucharist each day and Morning and Evening Prayer utilising the beauties of both the Samoan and English languages and styles of liturgy.
About 25 staff participated in the seminar including Fr Petelo Vito Pau sdb, Rector and Principal, Sr Monika Viapuna RNDM, Deputy Principal, and Salesians on staff, Frs Sefo Mulipola, Falani Felise and Aleki Piula.
The staff were encouraged and challenged to begin interpreting the Preventive System and Don Bosco’s vision for the education and evangelisation of the young into the Samoan culture and context and into the specific context of the Technical Centre.
